My name’s Laura and I’m a data nerd

Hi! Thank you for joining me on my brand spanking new (and first ever!) blog.

It’s been a goal of mine for a couple of years now to write a blog to keep a note of all of the things I’ve learnt along my journey with data, but I’ve never seemed to have the time.

So why now? Well, firstly, I am planning to make better use of my time in 2020 and beyond. Secondly, because it’s not just the start of a new year, but also the start of a brand new decade. So what better time to kick off a new blog?

A healthy word of warning, if you’re here hoping to pick up some Zen-worthy tips, you’re in the wrong place (I’d suggest Lorna Eden, Andy Kriebel or the Flerlage twins for that). But if you’re here hoping to learn with me and understand the stories behind my vizzes, settle in.

For those of you that don’t already know me, my name is Laura Sandford or Schofield (note to self, changing your name is a pain in the arse!).

I am originally from (just north of) Manchester, spent 8 years in Nottingham with a quick couple of years in London and now live in a tiny town called Godmanchester with my husband and two Labradors.

Data was never a career path that I considered having completed my PhD in Chemistry, I then stumbled into the data world and found my home. In hindsight it should have been obvious as all I ever did was collect data and try to interpret it…go figure!!

I’ve worked my way up from Junior Pricing Analyst to my current role of Head of Commercial Analytics. As a serial learner I have loved the amount that I have learnt so far but am even more excited about how much more there is out there for me to learn. So, this is my way of recording what I have learnt (and will learn) which is going to be super helpful to me and hopefully some of you too.

Thanks for reading and here is to a super insightful and data rich 2020.
